Effects of Magnetic Fields on Diffusion Flames
Since the time of Faraday, several researchers have studied the effects of magnetic fields on flames. In his time, Faraday realized that the application of certain magnetic field configurations to a burning candle resulted an equatorial elongation of the combustion zone [1]. Recent researchers have confirmed what Faraday observed over a century earlier by showing that flames bent to escape magn...
متن کاملTheory of the propagation dynamics of spiral edges of diffusion flames in von Kármán swirling flows
This analysis addresses the propagation of spiral edge flames found in von Kármán swirling flows induced in rotating porous-disk burners. In this configuration, a porous disk is spun at a constant angular velocity in an otherwise quiescent oxidizing atmosphere. Gaseous methane is injected through the disk pores and burns in a flat diffusion flame adjacent to the disk. Among other flame patterns...
متن کاملSoot Formation in Laminar Diffusion Flames
Laminar, sooting, coflow diffusion flames at atmospheric pressure have been studied experimentally and theoretically as a function of fuel dilution by inert nitrogen. The flames have been investigated with laser diagnostics. Laser extinction has been used to calibrate the experimental soot volume fractions and an improved gating method has been implemented in the laser-induced incandescence (LI...
متن کاملPeriod Doubling Cascade in Diffusion Flames
Here it is shown that chaotic oscillations can appear after a series of period doublings in radiating diffusion flames when the activation temperature is high enough. It is also shown that period doubling cascades appear typically in very small regions and that they may not be observable if one starts with small perturbations of a steady flame.
متن کاملEffects of Lewis Number on Temperatures of Spherical Diffusion Flames
Spherical diffusion flames supported on a porous sphere were studied numerically and experimentally. Experiments were performed in 2.2 s and 5.2 s microgravity facilities. Numerical results were obtained from a Chemkin-based program. The program simulates flow from a porous sphere into a quiescent environment, yields both steady-state and transient results, and accounts for optically thick gas-...
